ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. -- The second-ranked Christopher Newport baseball team hits the road this weekend for a three-game series at St. Mary's College of Maryland in Capital Athletic Conference action. The Captains (14-2, 3-0) and Seahawks (5-6-1, 0-3) modified the weekend schedule due to weather concerns and will now play a single game at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, before a doubleheader starting at Noon on Sunday, March 24.
With the adjustment to the league schedule this weekend, the Captains simultaneously announced the postponement of Monday's scheduled game against Hampden-Sydney College. The CNU game at Hampden-Sydney will be made up later this season.

Christopher Newport is riding a five-game winning streak as they hit the road this weekend with a 4-0 record in games away from Captains Park this year. CNU has played just two road games in the last 12 contests, but won both with a 15-8 win at Eastern Mennonite and 6-3 victory at Virginia Wesleyan. The Captains own a 13-3 advantage in the all-time series and swept last season's two game set against the Seahawks.
Heading into the three-game series, CNU ranks second nationally in runs scored while featuring one of the country's most dangerous offenses. The Captains rank seventh in doubles, eighth in home runs, and fourth in walks drawn. Seniors

On the mound, sophomore
Josh Husby (3-1) and junior
Teddy Herbert (3-1) are tied for the team lead in wins with junior reliever
Tyler Jumper (3-0). Husby has 32 strikeouts to lead the squad in 27.1 innings of work, while Jumper has yet to allow an earned run this season in 16.2 innings pitched. As a unit, the bullpen has a 5-0 record with a 2.33 ERA in over 73 innings pitched. Three different relievers have wins so far this season.
St. Mary's (Md.) opened the season 4-1 but has since dropped five of seven games including a three-game sweep suffered to Penn State Harrisburg in CAC action last weekend. Offensively, junior Bowen Plagge leads the team hitting .419 with 18 RBI and three home runs. Jay Hammett also has three homers this season with 11 RBI while Dillon Waters has 9 driven in, a pair of home runs and a .383 average. Sophomore Jackson Edelman leads the pitchign staff with a 1-1 record and 3.27 ERA in 22.0 innings of work. Only three pitchers have logged more than 7.2 innings of work this season.
Following this weekend's schedule, the Captains will return to action at home next weekend against Mary Washington. The first of a three-game series will begin at 3:00 pm on Friday, March 29.
