NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Playing in a late-night non-conference matchup against Methodist University, the 24th-ranked Christopher Newport women's tennis team won, 9-0, and improved to 4-4 on the season.
The Captains swept both doubles and singles while dropping Methodist to 6-5 on the season.
Johanna Ranta-aho,
Kara Ferner,
Amanda Yermal, and
Reagan Delp all captured a pair of wins on the day to lead the Captains performance. Ranta-aho picked up both of her wins on the top line.
The Helsinki, Finland native paired with
Olivia Reed at No. 1 doubles for an 8-3 win against Taylor Jackson and Abby Caddick before taking on Allison Himes at No. 1 singles for a 6-2, 6-1 win. Ferner earned the win at 3 doubles with Delp, 8-1, and then gave up just a single game in her win over Jackson at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-0.
The doubles sweep came when
Colette Gilbert and Yermal paired for an 8-0 win at No. 2, dropping Jill Lawrence and Abby Siracusa.
With the match in hand, the Captains and Monarchs agreed to play the 5 and 6 singles as a pro-set, with
Alison Burgess and
Ana Clara Borga each picking up wins, respectively.
CNU will return to action on Sunday, March 17 as they host Centre College.
