NEWPORT NEWS, Va. --
The 15th-ranked Christopher Newport men's lacrosse team will return home on Wednesday at 7 p.m. when CNU hosts Washington (Md.) in a non-conference tilt at Captains Field.

Entering the contest, the Captains sit at 4-2 overall, including 2-0 at home. Meanwhile, Washington (Md.) is 2-2 with a 1-0 mark on the road.

For those fans unable to attend the game, live stats will be available at CNUsports.com. Christopher Newport will also provide a broadcast of the action with Andy McGregor and Will Geise on the call. Direct links to both features can be found at the top of this release and on the CNU schedule page.

After upending Elizabethtown on Friday, Christopher Newport moved up to 15th in the latest USILA National Coaches Poll. The Captains earned 104 points in the rankings, which slotted them just behind 14th-ranked Franklin & Marshall, who picked up 122. Of the squad's first six opponents this season, four earned recognition in the latest poll. Ursinus sits ninth in the rankings, Washington & Lee is 16th, and both Hampden-Sydney and Colorado College are receiving votes.

Entering Wednesday, the Captains are averaging 18.00 caused turnovers per game. That places the squad seventh in the NCAA. On an individual level, Phoenix Hines and Max Wayne are tied for the conference lead with 20 caused turnovers apiece, while Drew Cornell sits fourth with 14. Cornell also ranks sixth in the CAC - and second among non-faceoff specialists - with 25 ground balls.

Along with the conference-leaders, Aidan FitzGerald, Campbell Pozin, and Scott McAneney all forced two turnovers against Elizabethtown last week as well. Overall, CNU caused 23 miscues against the Blue Jays, which marked the second-highest single-game total in program history.

On the offensive end, Dylan Rice has scored at least one goal in 14 straight games dating back to last season, which is tied for the fourth-longest streak in program history. So far this year, he has at least two goals in every contest and ranks eighth in the league with 16 total strikes. Meanwhile, Lucas Barry and Brady Altobello have also found the back of the net in all six games in 2019.

On the other side of the field, Washington (Md.) was receiving votes in the USILA National Coaches Poll as recently as March 4. Similar to the Captains, the Shoremen have faced a challenging schedule in the early going. The squad's two losses came against Washington & Lee, who currently sits 16th in the nation, and Stockton, who rests just outside of the top-20.

Washington (Md.) features a strong man-up unit, which has converted 50 percent of its extra-man opportunities this year. That rate ranks 14th in the NCAA. Zack Gorrassi and Cody Pascale are tied for the team-lead with three man-up goals apiece. Meanwhile, Casey Grieves leads the Shoremen with 13 total goals this year, while Cooper Sloan has 10 assists.

In goal, Chris Del Rosario has compiled a .542 save percentage and a 12.57 goals-against-average. He has at least 10 saves in all four of his appearances, including 21 stops in the opener against Berry. Kevin Wilson has also forced seven turnovers this season, while Lawrence Park has won 32 of his 63 faceoffs, including an 18-for-30 effort against Stockton on March 9.

Wednesday's game will mark the first ever meeting between Christopher Newport and Washington (Md.)
