Softball Sweeps Shenandoah Saturday to Improve to 9-1

NEWPORT NEWS, Va.- Christopher Newport continued its winning ways on Saturday, as the CNU softball squad recorded a sweep of Shenandoah at Captains Park. Keith Parr's team won the opener, 10-0, and then captured the nightcap, 9-1. Both games were shortened to six innings due to the eight-run rule.

Freshman Kaitlyn Hasty blasted a grand slam in the bottom of the sixth inning to close out the opener. Junior Grace Wild was three-for-three and tripled for the Captains. In game two, Freshman Bailey Roberts drove in two runs with a double in the fifth inning, and Sarah Proctor plated two more with a sixth inning triple.

Sophomore Emily Weatherholtz threw shutout ball and picked up the victory in the opener to go to 4-0 on the season, and junior Aubrey Bates improved to 4-1 with the win in game two.

CNU posted 19 runs on 20 hits in the twin bill. Shenandoah is now 2-7 following the defeats.

The Captains have won nine straight games since dropping their opener to Emory & Henry. CNU will host Lynchburg on Thursday at Captains Park, with the doubleheader beginning at 2:30 p.m.
