GETTYSBURG, Pa. -- For the first time in program history the Christopher Newport women's basketball team will make it's fourth consecutive appearance in the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship, taking the court on Friday, March 1 on the campus of Gettysburg College. The Captains (23-5) will face the host Bullets (22-5) in the first round of the tournament at 7:30 p.m. as part of a doubleheader hosted at Bream Gym.

Christopher Newport secured entry into this year's postseason event by winning the Capital Athletic Conference Championship last week. The Captains will take on host Gettysburg College, who picked up an at-large bid into the national tournament after winning the Centennial Conference regular season title and finishing as runner-up in the league tournament.

The other game being hosted by the Bullets will feature Mount Saint Mary College (22-5) and Westfield State University (18-9) at 5:30 p.m. The winning teams will advance to Saturday's second round bout at 6:00 p.m.

For fans who are unable to make the trip to Pennsylvania, live stats and video will be available with links found at the top of this page or on the women's basketball schedule at CNUsports.com. Ticket prices are $7 for adults; $4 for students, children, and senior citizens; children under 2 will be admitted free.

The Captains are making the program's 20th NCAA Tournament appearance including the sixth in seven seasons under head coach Bill Broderick. In the previous five trips, CNU has finished in the Final Four, Elite Eight, and Sweet 16 three times.

This season, Christopher Newport has shattered the program's record for three-pointers made in a season with 221, blasting the previous mark of 191 set in 1997-98. CNU ranks in the top-15 nationally in triples made while the offense overall ranks 15th averaging 77.1 points per game. On the defensive end, the Captains rank third nationally in steals and fifth in turnovers forced per game.

Junior Kiana Kirkland (11.9 ppg), rookie Sondra Fan (10.6 ppg), and senior Jessica Daguilh (10.6 ppg) lead one of the nation's leading offenses. Also averaging nearly 10 points per game is rookie Jessica Foster, who leads the three-point attack with 73 made triples in her first year. The Captains have won nine straight games heading into Friday night's matchup.

The Captains will take on a Gettysburg squad with just two games between the programs all-time. CNU is 2-0 in a pair of regular season matchups; this is the first ever meeting between the two teams in the postseason.

The Bullets are led by Emma Dorshimer, averaging 16.9 points per game while shooting nearly 45% from beyond the arc (53-118). Dorshimer also hauls in 5.9 rebounds per game and is shooting 85% from the free-throw line. Also averaging double figures is Ashley Gehrin, with 12.0 points per game.
