11th-Ranked Captains Open CAC Tournament Tuesday Night Hosting Southern Virginia

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Christopher Newport University men's basketball squad won its final six games of the regular season, and now John Krikorian's team is ready to begin the 2019 Capital Athletic Conference Tournament. CNU, 22-3 overall and 14-2 in the CAC, hosts Southern Virginia at the Freeman Center Tuesday night in the quarterfinal round. Tipoff time is set for 8:00 p.m.

The Captains have climbed to 11th in the nation in the new national pool from D3hoops.com. CNU has advanced to the Championship of the post-season tournament in each of the last five seasons since joining the CAC. The Captains are the top seed in the eight-team tourney, while the Knights of Southern Virginia are eighth-seeded following a 4-21 overall record and an 0-14 mark this year in conference play.

CNU is 13-0 at home this season, and recorded a tough 67-64 win over the Knights on February 6th at the Freeman Center. On January 16th in Buena Vista, CNU had an easier time of it as the Captains cruised to a 77-54 triumph. Christopher Newport has won 18 of 19 all-time meetings with the Knights.

The game will be broadcast live on the Christopher Newport/Pepsi Radio Network (Xtra 99.1 FM) with the pre-game show beginning at 7:40 p.m. The action will also be streamed live at CNUsports.com/watch with live stats available as well.
