NEWPORT NEWS, Va. --
Making the squad's first appearance at Captains Field in 2019, the 13th-ranked Christopher Newport men's lacrosse team will kick off its home slate on Friday at 3 p.m. when CNU hosts Colorado College in a non-conference battle.

Friday's game will mark the team's debut at Captains Field, which will serve as CNU's home throughout the 2019 campaign. Captains Turf Field is currently undergoing a renovation project that will put the program's normal stadium out of commission during the spring.

Captains Field, which also serves as the home of CNU soccer, is adjacent to POMOCO Stadium.

For those fans unable to attend the contest, live stats will be available on CNUsports.com. Christopher Newport will also provide a broadcast of the game with Andy McGregor and Randy Foster calling all of the action. Direct links to the live stats and broadcast can be found at the top of this release and on the CNU schedule page.

Entering Friday, Christopher Newport currently sits at 0-1 on the season after dropping a 14-7 decision at No. 12 Washington & Lee on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Colorado College will be making its first appearance of the year on Friday.

The match-up, which marks the first-ever meeting between CNU and Colorado College, features a pair of programs coming off NCAA Tournament appearances last year. The Captains posted a 15-5 record in 2018 while advancing to the third round of the national playoffs. Meanwhile, the Tigers earned their sixth straight trip to the NCAA Tournament before bowing out to No. 8 Cabrini, 21-10, in the Round of 32.

Guided by their efforts last year, Colorado College earned votes in the 2019 USILA National Preseason Coaches Poll, while CNU is currently slotted 13th in the most recent rankings.

In their first action of the season on Wednesday, nine different Captains registered a point against Washington & Lee, including freshmen Alex Horgan and Brady Altobello. In fact, of the nine players to record a point, eight were either freshmen or sophomores. Second-year standout Dylan Rice posted a pair of goals after tying the single-season program record with 56 strikes last season, while fellow classmate Miles Collins handed out two assists.

Along with his offensive efforts, Collins also collected three ground balls and forced a turnover. Meanwhile, Aidan FitzGerald won seven faceoffs and picked up six ground balls, while Scott McAneney finished with 11 saves.

Of the 10 players that opened the game on Wednesday, seven were returning starters from last year's NCAA Tournament bout against No. 7 Salisbury. Horgan, Altobello, and sophomore Jordan Lee were the only newcomers to the starting unit.

On the other side of the field, Colorado College also boasts an impressive collection of veteran talent from last year's squad. The Tigers welcomed back eight starters and 33 total veterans from the 2018 roster, which compiled a 13-2 record. Guided by a potent attack, CC eventually finished 14th in the NCAA with a 15.00 goals-per-game average last season. Of the team's eight leading scorers, seven are back in 2019, including junior Coby Petau, who ranked sixth in the country with a .553 shooting percentage after converting 42 of his 76 total shots into goals. The only departure from the 2018 attack was Robbie Stern, who led CC with 73 points while collecting honorable mention All-American accolades.

Colorado College also welcomes back starting goalie Andrew Harwood, who compiled a .545 save percentage and a 10.04 goals-against-average in 14 appearances last season. Parker Woo and Ben Schwaeber also return after taking the bulk of the faceoffs in 2018. Woo posted a team-best .613 faceoff percentage, which placed him 44th in the NCAA.

Following Friday's tilt, Christopher Newport will return to action on February 23 for a road battle at Hampden-Sydney.
