The Captains are coming off two victories last weekend at the Freeman Center over Randolph and Lynchburg in the Christopher Newport Classic. Last Saturday's win over the Hornets of Lynchburg came in thrilling style as junior Adrian Beasley scored on a putback with five seconds left to propel the Captains to a 79-77 victory.

Junior Jason Aigner leads the Christopher Newport attack, and is averaging 15.0 points per game, while freshman Ian Anderson is scoring 9.3. Beasley and senior Dalon McHugh II are each averaging 9.2 points per game. Senior Cutch Ellis tops the squad in the rebounding column, averaging 6.7 rebounds per contest. The Captains are currently out-rebounding their opponents by 12 boards per game (an average of 47-35).

Christopher Newport opened the year with a loss at Johns Hopkins but has followed the defeat with five straight victories. The Captains have won 21 straight games at the Freeman Center, and went 18-0 last year on the home floor en route to a 29-4 overall mark and a trip to the Final Four.

The Comets of Texas-Dallas have not played since November 17th, and are 2-1 following a 78-62 victory over Trinity. The Comets have also defeated Redlands in overtime and have lost to Whittier in the early season. The Comets are coached by Terry Butterfield, who has guided the program since 2000. Butterfield led the Virginia Wesleyan men's basketball program for 11 seasons from 1989-1999.

Wisconsin-Stevens Point is off to a 3-0 start, and the Pointers are coming off a win on Tuesday at Wisconsin-Superior, 69-53. Wilmington is 1-3 and lost on Monday to Earlham, 79-76.

All Captains games are broadcast live on the Christopher Newport/Pepsi Radio Network (Xtra 99.1 FM) with the pre-game show beginning at approximately 3:40 Saturday and Sunday. All four games in the Classic will be streamed live on CNUsports.com/watch with live stats available for each game as well.
