NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Christopher Newport men's lacrosse team is helping raise funds and awareness for the HEADstrong Foundation as the Captains are participating in Mustache Madness for the eighth straight year.
Dating back to 2012, Christopher Newport has been an active participant in Mustache Madness, which is an annual campaign in the lacrosse community that is used to help families affected by cancer. Student-athletes around the country are encouraged to grow their mustaches to help raise funds and awareness for the HEADstrong Foundation.
This year, the national campaign hopes to raise $315,000 to commemorate the 315,000 American families that will be impacted by a cancer diagnosis during the duration of the campaign.
Mustache Madness is in its 11th year and was originally created by Ken Clausen, who served as a captain on the Virginia men's lacrosse team alongside Christopher Newport head coach
Mikey Thompson during the 2010 season.
