It will be the first home game for the Captains in almost a month. Christopher Newport is 0-4 overall and 0-1 in the NJACÂ following a 30-6 defeat last Saturday at Kean. WPU is 2-2 on the year and 0-1 as well in the league.
"Our work ethic is good and our team has made progress this week in practice," Head Coach
Art Link said. "Obviously we're not where we want to be right now, but there are six games left for us to show what we're made of."
Saturday's matinee will be the fifth meeting of the schools, and the Captains have won the previous four. Last year in Wayne, NJ, Christopher Newport registered a 39-10 victory. The Pioneers are coming off a 27-24 loss last week to the College of New Jersey.Â
The Captains expect to start freshman
Xander Jedlick at quarterback on Saturday. Jedlick is from Virginia Beach and led his Ocean Lakes High School squad to a 23-3 record over the last two seasons.
"It will be good to be back home," Link continued. "Our fans give us a big lift and the atmosphere at TowneBank Stadium is really something special."
Gates will open at TowneBank Stadium at 12 noon on Saturday. The game will be broadcast on the Christopher Newport/Pepsi Radio Network (Xtra 99.1 FM) with the pre-game show beginning at 12:30 p.m.
