ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. -- With two goals in the final ten minutes of action, the Christopher Newport men's soccer team picked up it's third straight win to open the season with a 3-2 victory at North Carolina Wesleyan College on Wednesday afternoon, rallying from behind to capture the victory.
Junior defender
Derek Cook picked up a goal for the third straight game to open the season on a tear, scoring off a corner kick in the 43rd minute of action. His unassisted score got the Captains on the board, but CNU trailed the Battling Bishops, 2-1, halfway through the second half.
Ryan Halliday and Cadribo Godfrey scored for N.C. Wesleyan as the hosts took a 2-1 advantage with just over 30 minutes remaining. They would hold onto that edge until there was less than eight minutes remaining in the match.
CNU got the equalizer in the 83rd minute when

Andrew Maeso for his first goal of the season. He worked by the goalkeeper with his dribble to score for the Captains. With new life and short time on the clock, the Captains put away the Bishops in the 88th minute with less than three minutes left. Junior
Jordan Boone picked up the winner, scoring on a one-on-one opportunity.

Zach Pedini made four saves in the contest, improving to 3-0-0 on the season.
CNU will stay on the road for a pair of matches this weekend as they play at the Shellenberger Classic hosted by Lynchburg College. First up, CNU will take on Roanoke College on Friday, September 7 at 5:00 pm; the next night, the Captains will take on the host Hornets at 7:30 pm.
