SALISBURY, Md. --
After picking up the program's first-ever victory in NCAA Tournament play on Wednesday, the 16th-ranked Christopher Newport men's lacrosse team will look to continue its historic season on Saturday at 7 p.m. when the Captains battle No. 7 Salisbury at Sea Gull Stadium.

Entering the Sweet 16 showdown, Christopher Newport stands at 15-4 on the season after defeating No. 17 Roanoke in the NCAA opener on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Salisbury is 17-3 overall after upending Morrisville State in SU's first action of the tournament.

For those fans unable to attend the game, Salisbury will provide live stats and a video stream of the action at SUSeaGulls.com. Direct links to both features can be found at the top of this release and on the CNU schedule page.

Making history with their 17-11 victory over Roanoke on Wednesday, the Captains pieced together a record-setting performance against the Maroons. During the contest, Matthew Crist deposited six points, including three goals. With that effort, he established a new career goals record with 124 and broke the school's single-season points record with his 80th of the year. He also became the first player in CNU history to record at least 100 career goals and 100 career assists after dishing out three helpers on Wednesday.

Along with Crist, Tony Cruz set a new single-season record with his 103rd ground ball, while Max Wayne established a new single-season freshman record with his 29th caused turnover of the year. That total also ranks as the third-highest among all players in program history.

In addition to the record-breakers, Lucas Barry posted five goals against Roanoke, while Jake O'Connell chipped in with four points, including three assists. The All-Conference midfielder also scooped up five ground balls and forced a turnover during a well-rounded performance. Meanwhile, Dylan Rice and Drew Magnusson both scored a pair of goals, and Scott McAneney registered 11 saves to earn the victory.

On the other side of the field, Salisbury advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament after topping Morrisville State, 19-5, on Wednesday. SU stormed out to an 8-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. Josh Melton posted six points for the Sea Gulls, while Garrett Reynolds found the back of the net four times. T.J. Logue and Brett Malamphy starred on faceoffs as well, winning 18 of the game's 25 battles.

Overall this season, Salisbury ranks second in the nation with a .912 clearing percentage and fourth with 769 ground balls. The team also sits 20th in the NCAA in both scoring defense (7.00 goals-against-average) and scoring offense (14.60 goals per game).

Saturday's meeting will mark the third match-up between the two programs this year. SU won the first game, 6-5, in Newport News before registering a 14-3 triumph in the CAC semifinals. Overall, Salisbury has a 5-1 edge in the all-time series.

The winner of Saturday's contest will advance to the Elite Eight on May 16 for a battle against the survivor of the Dickinson - Washington & Lee showdown.
