No. 6 CNU Baseball Closes Regular Season at No. 1 Randolph-Macon Tuesday at 3pm

ASHLAND, Va. -- In the final regular season game of the season for the 6th-ranked Christopher Newport baseball team, a challenge has been raised as the newest ABCA National Rankings were released Tuesday morning. The Captains (31-7) will travel to freshly minted No. 1 Randolph-Macon College for a 3:00 pm first pitch on Tuesday. Live stats and video will be available from the R-MC Baseball Stadium.

Randolph-Macon moved up from number three after pushing their record to 28-5-1 over the weekend. In the D3baseball.com Top 25, Macon moved up to No. 3 and CNU is ranked No. 5. Today's game will be the 50th in the all-time series, with CNU holding a slight 27-22 advantage in the matchup.

Christopher Newport has put together one of the finest seasons in program history, marking just the fifth time the team has reached 30 wins in a season. Led by the standout play of junior third baseman Seth Woodard and senior designated hitter Brandon Ginch, the Captains offense has been one of the most dangerous units in the nation, scoring the fourth most runs in Division III this season. CNU's offense ranks third in home runs, 11th in doubles, and 10th in scoring, with 9.1 runs per game.

Woodard is in the top 50 nationally in nearly every statistical category offensively, including third in home runs and fifth in total RBI. Ginch has put together a career year in his final campaign and ranks 41st nationally in doubles with 15. Ahead of the two big bats in the lineup is rookie sensation Conner Clark, who is climbing the single season stolen base charts at CNU while ranking 15th nationally with 26 thefts this season. Clark has shattered the rookie stolen base record and ranks tied for fourth on the all-time single season chart at CNU.

Randolph-Macon has been a dominant offense all season long as well, led by senior Joseph Tuzzolo, who leads the team in homers (10) and RBI (49) while also hitting a team-best .403. Senior Cole Migliorini has helped anchor the middle of the order with a .369 average, 6 HR, and 38 RBI.

Following Tuesday's regular season finale, the Captains will open play in the Capital Athletic Conference Tournament at home this Friday, May 4.
