NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The 17th-ranked Christopher Newport men's lacrosse team will square off with Mary Washington in a Capital Athletic Conference bout at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Captains Turf Field.
Entering the contest, CNU sits at 11-2 on the season, including 4-1 in league action. Mary Washington is 7-5 with a 3-1 mark in CAC play.

Christopher Newport is coming off of a 14-6 triumph at Marymount on Saturday. Against the Saints, 10 different Captains registered a point, including hat-tricks by
Will Stockhausen and
Dylan Rice.
Matthew Crist also posted four points, including three assists, while
Lucas Barry chipped in with a pair of tallies.
Overall this season, CNU ranks among the top-20 nationally in a variety of categories. The squad is eighth in ground balls (474), 10th in man-up offense (.457), and 17th in total assists (101). The Captains also rank 21st in shooting percentage (.333) and 22nd in faceoff percentage (.630).
On an individual level, Rice ranks first in the conference with 36 goals, while Crist sits second with 34. Crist is also second in points (58) and third in assists (24). Additionally,
Tony Cruz leads the conference with 170 faceoff victories and sits second with 82 ground balls. On the defensive end,
Max Wayne is sixth with 20 caused turnovers, while
Will Cogan is ninth with 18.
On the other side, Mary Washington is coming off of a 16-4 setback at No. 2 York (Pa.). That loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Eagles. Against the nationally-ranked Spartans, Chris White posted two goals, while Shane McKenzie had a pair of assists. Billy Senicola also added 15 saves in 58 minutes of work.
So far this season, Mary Washington leads the CAC in man-down defense as the Eagles have killed off 80 percent of their shorthanded situations. On the other side, White has been lethal in man-up opportunities. He currently leads the conference and ranks eighth nationally with eight man-up goals. The junior also stands second in the league with a .453 shooting percentage, while McKenzie is second with 31 assists and Senicola is second with 117 saves.
In 13 previous meetings between the two programs, UMW holds a 9-4 advantage in the series. However, CNU won last year's match-up, 14-9. Cruz pieced together a dominant effort in that contest, winning 19 of his 26 faceoff attempts while collecting eight ground balls.
Christopher Newport will return to action on Saturday when the Captains host No. 2 York (Pa.) at 1 p.m. The program will hold its annual Senior Day festivities before that contest.
