NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Christopher Newport football squad returns to POMOCO Stadium Saturday for a 1 :00 p.m. kickoff vs. Kean University. The New Jersey Athletic Conference matchup comes during Homecoming Weekend at CNU. The Captains are 4-2 overall and 3-2 in the NJAC, while the Cougars are just 1-6 for the year and 1-5 in league play.

Last Saturday, the Captains blew open a close game with three fourth quarter touchdowns on the way to a 39-10 road triumph at winless William Paterson. Art Link's squad will again have to guard against a slow start as they take on Kean.

"They're a good program and have played a lot of close games this year," Link said. "Our conference is so strong you can't look past anybody. We've got to get after it from the start and take care of business. It's Homecoming and we're looking forward to another great atmosphere at POMOCO Stadium."

CNU's only losses this year have both come at home and in overtime, dropping three-point verdicts to Montclair State and Salisbury. The Captains have the seventh-best total defense in the country, and are allowing just 62 yards per game on the ground. The meeting with Kean will be the fifth in the all-time series, and the Cougars have won three of the previous four games. Last year in Union, New Jersey, the Cougars defeated the Captains, 26-7.

The game will be broadcast live on the Christopher Newport/Pepsi Radio Network (Xtra 99.1 FM) with the pre-game show beginning at 12:30 p.m. Live video and stats will also be available at hte links below. Tailgate lots will open at 9:00 a.m. Saturday and ticket sales at POMOCO Stadium will begin at 11:00 a.m. Gates will open at 12:00 p.m.

The will call ticket distribution for the homecoming tailgate Saturday will be different than the rest of the games. Instead of being located at the Moores Lane entrance, will call tickets will be available in front of York River Hall. Customers should enter campus from Avenue of the Arts and take the first exit out of the traffic circle towards the Trible Library and Main Campus. In front of the Trible Library, take a left through the black gates. Drive straight until you get to the tailgate will call on the left. Make sure you have a photo ID to pick up your pass. Once customers have their pass, they can just keep driving straight into the lot.
