Captains Travel to Maryland For Saturday Matinees at Frostburg State

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Christopher Newport heads on the road again to begin the second half of the Capital Athletic Conference Saturday as the Captains play at Frostburg State University. The women's game will begin at 1:00 p.m. followed by the men's action starting at approximately 3:00 p.m. at Bobcat Arena.

The CNU men will be looking to avenge a loss to the Bobcats on December 2nd at the Freeman Center. FSU needed overtime to get by the Captains, 83-81, for the first victory in  ten games for Frostburg State over CNU in Newport News. John Krikorian's squad is 12-4 overall and 6-3 in the CAC heading into Saturday's game following a 76-62 triumph Wednesday night over Mary Washington at the Freeman Center. Senior big man Spencer Marin led the way for CNU with his second double-double of the year, posting 13 points and ten rebounds. 

The Bobcats enter play on Saturday with a 7-9 overall mark and a 5-4 CAC record. Webb Hatch's team is coming off an 82-76 overtime win at home over Southern Virginia on Wednesday. FSU has now played four overtime games this season, and has won them all. This is Hatch's 19th and final season leading the Bobcats, who are 5-15 all-time vs. CNU.

In the women's opener, the Captains take on a Frostburg State squad that is 8-8 overall and 4-5 in league play. Bill Broderick's Captains, now 14-2 and 8-1, are coming off a dominant effort Wednesday night. CNU downed Mary Washington, 98-43, at the Freeman Center and in the process handed the Eagles their worst loss since 1987. 

The Captains are now ranked tenth in the country by the WBCA and 12th by D3hoops.com. Back on December 2nd, the Captains handed Frostburg State an 88-32 defeat at the Freeman Center. CNU is 11-0 all-time vs. FSU in women's basketball action.

Both games will be streamed live on CNUsports.com/live with the webcasts beginning at 12:50 p.m. The men's game will be broadcast live on the Christopher Newport/Pepsi Radio Network (Xtra 99.1 FM) with the pre-game show beginning at approximately 2:40 p.m.
