NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Christopher Newport and Rowan University tangle Saturday night at POMOCO Stadium in a key New Jersey Athletic Conference game. Both teams are 3-1 overall and 2-1 in the conference, and both squads will reach the halfway point of the regular season following the tilt. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m., and the matchup will be final night game of the season for CNU. 

Not only do both schools have the same record, but both have also suffered their only loss at home to Frostburg State. The Bobcats are currently tied with Salisbury, next week's CNU opponent, at 3-0 atop the league standings. CNU dropped a 33-30 decision to Frostburg State on September 16th, while the Profs lost to the Bobcats last Saturday, 24-10, in Glassboro, N.J. Christopher Newport also played in the Garden State last Saturday, beating Montclair State, 16-8.  

Both squads have relied on superior defensive efforts this season through the first four games. The Captains lead the nation this week in turnovers forced (18) as well as interceptions (12). Senior cornerback Tyrell Noel has picked off five passes, and senior defensive end Chris Coggins has recorded six sacks this season for CNU.

Rowan has dominated the series with the Captains, as the Profs have won seven of eight previous meetings in the all-time series. Recent encounters have been very close, with the last three games decided by a total of 14 points. Last year, the Profs escaped with a 10-7 win at Rowan.

For the first time in CNU program history, the Captains will be wearing all black uniforms Saturday night, and fans are asked to wear black as well to show support for the team. Tickets for the game will be available at the POMOCO Stadium gates Saturday, and the gates to the stadium will open at 5:00 p.m.

The battle will be broadcast on the Christopher Newport/Pepsi Radio Network (Xtra 99.1 FM) and audio and video will be streamed live on CNUsports.com/live. The pre-game show will begin at 5:30 p.m.
