GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Christopher Newport scored two goals in the final 15 minutes to come from behind and defeat Greensboro College (3-3-0) in men's soccer action on Thursday evening, 2-1. The Captains improved to 3-2-0 overall behind goals from leading scorers
Jimmy Grace and
Stephen Durbin.
Playing in non-conference action against the Pride, the Captains fell behind early in the second half when the home team took a 1-0 lead in the 49th minute. Jordy Briceno set up Carlos Barragan for the goal as Greensboro opened up the advantage.
The Captains would find the equalizer in the 76th minute when senior
Jimmy Grace converted on his fifth goal of the year. He scored off an assist from sophomore
Samsu Sallah with less than 15 minutes remaining to draw the score even at 1-1.
It was just over five minutes later when Christopher Newport converted on the game-winning strike off the foot of junior
Stephen Durbin. His third goal of the season was his second gamewinner.
For the game, the Captains outshot Greensboro, 14-6, including a 5-4 edge in shots on-goal.
