NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Christopher Newport men's lacrosse team will wrap up its six-game homestand on Wednesday at 4 p.m. when CNU hosts Southern Virginia in a Capital Athletic Conference tilt at Captains Turf Field.
Entering the battle, Christopher Newport currently sits at 6-2 and is riding a five-game winning streak. The Captains are also 1-0 in the CAC. Meanwhile, Southern Virginia is 4-3 overall and 2-0 in league action.

A LOOK AT THE CAPTAINS
Enjoying the cozy confines at Captains Turf Field, Christopher Newport is a spotless 5-0 during its current homestand and has out-scored the opposition by an average of 12 goals per game. Additionally, the Captains have won an astounding 71 percent of their faceoffs over the past five games and boast a .701 save percentage.
On an individual level, the current homestand has been a stretch to remember for
Will Geise. Over the past five games, the senior has established new career program records for points (146) and goals (94) while earning the CAC Offensive Player of the Week award. During his recent run, he has scored 21 of his 29 goals this season, including three consecutive hat-tricks.
Along with Geise,
Nick Kirschke has won 73 percent of his faceoff attempts during the homestand, while
Tony Cruz has gone 45-for-64. Meanwhile,
Matthew Crist has 24 points, including a team-high 12 assists, and
Will Cogan has forced 14 turnovers over the past two weeks.
Overall this season,
Matt Hayden ranks 13th in the NCAA with a .635 save percentage and 18th with a 6.44 goals-against-average. Along with Hayden, Geise ranks 23rd nationally with a 3.63 goals-per-game average and 20th with four man-up goals. As a team, Christopher Newport ranks eighth in the country in scoring margin (7.63 goals-per-game), 18th in ground balls (281), and 20th in points-per-game (22.75).
SCOUTING THE KNIGHTS
Southern Virginia has been tremendous on the road so far this season, boasting a pristine 4-0 record away from Buena Vista. Among their victories, the Knights took down Marymount, 16-14, in the CAC opener and dropped St. Mary's (Md.), 18-15, on Saturday.
On an individual level, Shawn Lamb has been electric so far this year, leading the league and ranking 19th nationally with a 3.71 goals-per-game mark. He is also tied for the conference lead with 41 total points and sits third with 26 goals. Casey Rich, a reigning first-team All-CAC selection, also stands fourth in the conference with 24 goals.
Defensively, Carson Franklin has started five games in goal and sports a .411 save percentage and a 12.07 goals-against-average. Meanwhile, Kyle Fujikawa leads the Knights with five caused turnovers, and Logan Lund has won 81 of his 168 faceoff attempts.
SERIES HISTORY
Christopher Newport and Southern Virginia have met four times with the Captains holding a 4-0 edge in the series. Last year, the two programs met twice, including a first-round bout in the CAC Tournament. During the postseason showdown, Geise led the Captains with five goals, and Crist contributed four. Spencer Tunick, a sophomore on this year's team, contributed two goals during the playoffs to cap off a strong freshman campaign.
