Christopher Newport - Hampden-Sydney Men’s Lacrosse Game Moved to a 3:30 p.m. Start on Saturday

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. --
The Christopher Newport men's lacrosse team will cap off its season-opening, three-game road trip on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. when the Captains battle Hampden-Sydney in a non-conference showdown at Everett Stadium.
 
Entering the weekend, the Captains sit at 1-1 on the year. Meanwhile, Hampden-Sydney is 2-1, including 1-0 at home after upending Mary Washington in the season opener two weeks ago.

A LOOK AT THE CAPTAINS
 
Christopher Newport bounced back from a 14-6 setback against No. 20 Washington & Lee in the opener with a commanding 14-3 triumph over Randolph-Macon on Wednesday. Against the Yellow Jackets, Ryan Mills and Shane McKenna both contributed five points, including three goals. Will Geise also added a hat-trick, and Matthew Crist recorded three assists. On the other side, Matt Hayden made 11 saves to earn the victory, while Drew Cornell and Randy Foster both forced a pair of turnovers.
 
Through the first week of the season, Mills and Crist are tied for the team-lead with seven points apiece. Crist has been the top facilitator with five assists, and Geise sports a team-high five goals. Tony Cruz has also excelled on faceoffs, winning 14 of his 21 battles. Foster also boasts a team-leading four caused turnovers, and Cornell has three to go along with five ground balls.
 
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
 
Hampden-Sydney is coming off of a 13-12 setback against Catholic on Wednesday after opening the year with back-to-back victories over Mary Washington and Berry. The Tigers are averaging 13 goals-per-game this year, including a team-high 12 points from Hunter Brown. Ian Levin and Chandler Shaheen have also scored eight times apiece as well.
 
Between the pipes, Mitch Renfrow has started all three games while compiling a .408 save percentage and a 10.55 goals-against-average. The sophomore has made 20 saves and allowed 29 goals this year. Meanwhile, the defense is led by Kent Henry, who boasts five caused turnovers, while Jay Moss and Triston Stegall have forced four apiece. At the "X," Jared Arntzen has won 39 of his 67 faceoff attempts this year. Wilson Booth has won 10 of 16 as well.
 
SERIES HISTORY
 
CNU and Hampden-Sydney have met 10 times with the Tigers holding a 6-4 edge in the all-time series. Last year, Christopher Newport registered a 9-6 victory in Newport News, including three points from Crist. Hayden also made 11 saves during that contest to earn the win.
 
UP NEXT
 
Following Saturday's action, Christopher Newport will make its home debut on Wednesday at 7 p.m. when the squad hosts Virginia Wesleyan at Captains Turf Field.
