CNU Men's Soccer Hosts Southern Virginia in Capital Athletic Conference Action Wednesday Night

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- On Wednesday night, the Christopher Newport men's soccer team will look to add to a 6-game winning streak as they host Southern Virginia University in Capital Athletic Conference action. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 pm at Captains Field, with live stats and live video available at CNUsports.com/live. 

The Captains come into the contest with a 7-2-0 overall record, including a 2-0-0 mark to start conference play. CNU will take on a Southern Virginia squad that is 3-8-0 with an 0-2-0 mark against the CAC. After winning three of four in the middle of September, the Knights have lost four straight heading into Wednesday's game.

The Captains rank third nationally in scoring offense with a 4.11 goals per game average and are among the top ten nationally in total assists (7th - 29), total goals (9th - 37), and total points (10th - 103). One of the top offenses in the country through the first nine games, Christopher Newport has leaned on senior Jimmy Grace, with 19 points, and junior Stephen Durbin, with 18 points, so far this season. Both players have eight goals so far this year. 

The attack has been particularly good off the opening whistle, outscoring opponents 23-3 in the first half alone this season. Defensively, CNU is holding opponents to just 6.9 shots per game. 

Southern Virginia comes into the game averaging 1.45 goals per game. The offense has no double-figure scorers yet this season, but senior Marrott Weekes and rookie Jeremy Wilson each have nine points to lead the team. Weekes has scored a team-high four goals while Wilson has three goals and three assists. 

Following Wednesday night's matchup against the Knights, CNU will host Frostburg State University on Saturday, October 7 in another key Capital Athletic Conference matchup.
