Christopher Newport Men's Soccer Headed to Marymount for Regular Season Finale Wednesday

ARLINGTON, Va. -- After a thrilling result on the road at Mary Washington on Saturday afternoon that locked up a first-round bye in the conference tournament, the Christopher Newport men's soccer team will look to potentially clinch the regular season title on Wednesday night. The Captains (12-2-1, 7-0-1) will travel to Marymount University for the regular season finale, kicking off against the Saints at 7:00 pm.

The Saints (4-13, 2-6) will provide live stats and a live video webcast for fans unable to attend the mid-week contest in Northern Virginia. Links to both can be found at the men's soccer schedule on CNUsports.com.

Christopher Newport is 12-1 all-time against the Saints, including a 2-1 result last season in Newport News. This year, Marymount will look to snap a 12-game unbeaten streak for the Captains, who haven't lost since September 9.

In that run, the Captains' offense has been the story as they continue to lead the nation in scoring offense. Among the 409 NCAA Division III programs in the nation, the offense ranks number one with 3.93 goals per game. CNU has scored multiple goals in 12 of 15 total contests this year, including in all but one game in their current unbeaten streak.

On the other end of the field, the defense has allowed one goal or fewer in each of the last seven games. The back line has featured a number of players this season, with sophomore Derek Cook serving as the only player to start all 15 games this season. Cook leads the team in minutes played in his second season, and has also chipped in offensively with one goal and two assists.

Coming into Wednesday's matchup, the Marymount Saints have been led by junior forward Sebastian Hendi with 13 points (6g, 1a). Rookie Levis Lopez has had a strong first year, tied for second on the team with seven points on two goals, both gamewinners, and three assists. Defensively, Marymount is allowing 2.52 goals per game, while sophomore goalkeeper John Valcicak has played all 1534+ minutes this season.

Regardless of the result Wednesday night, the Captains will host a CAC Semifinal matchup at Captains Field next week, with gametimes yet to be announced. The semifinals will be played on Wednesday, November 1.
