Football Hosts Saturday Matinee Vs. William Paterson During Family Weekend

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Following an off week last week, the Captains of Christopher Newport return to action Saturday afternoon, hosting the Pioneers of William Paterson University. Kickoff time for the New Jersey Athletic Conference clash at POMOCO Stadium is set for 1:00 p.m.  The game is part of Family Weekend festivities at CNU, and is sold out. Standing room only tickets will be sold for $5.00 Saturday morning beginning at 11:00 a.m. at the gates outside POMOCO Stadium.

The Captains, 4-2 overall and 3-2 in the NJAC, are coming off a 17-7 defeat two weeks ago at Salisbury. The Pioneers are 0-6 overall and 0-5 in conference play and lost at home last week to Frostburg State, 59-7.

"This is obviously going to be a big game for us," Head Coach Art Link said. "We're looking forward to getting back on the field at POMOCO Stadium in front of a big crowd. We've prepared well for this game and now we need to take care of business."

Christopher Newport remains the top team in the country in turnover margin (plus 16) as well as turnovers gained (22). The Captains are seventh in the nation in interceptions with 14, and 16th in the country in fumbles recovered with eight.

The game will be the third meeting of the schools, and the Captains have won the first two matchups by scores of 42-30 and 26-7.  William Paterson, located in Wayne, New Jersey, was 2-8 last season and the Pioneers have been out-scored in their six losses this year by a 330-28 margin.

In addition to being Family Weekend, the game will also be a "Pink Out." The Captains will be teaming up with Zeta Tau Alpha to raise awareness and honor those who have been affected by breast cancer, and fans are encouraged to wear pink to POMOCO Saturday. A 50/50 raffle will also be held Saturday to help support the cause.

The game will be broadcast live on the Christopher Newport/Pepsi Radio Network with the pre-game show beginning at 12:30 p.m. The action will also be streamed live on CNUsports.com/live.
