NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Christopher Newport and Marymount square off Sunday afternoon in a Capital Athletic Conference basketball doubleheader at the Verizon Sports Arena in Arlington. The women's game will tip off at 3:00 p.m. followed by the men's action at 5:00 p.m.
The CNU men have a record of 10-2 overall and 4-1 in the Capital Athletic Conference, and are ranked sixth in the country. The Captains are coming off a 71-62 triumph Wednesday night at Wesley College. Seniors led the way for
John Krikorian's squad, as Rayshard Brown posted 16 points, Kevin Regimbal scored 15, and Tim Daly added 14. Junior All-American Marcus Carter was held to seven points, and is now just 11 points shy of 1,000 for his career.
The men's game will be a battle for sole possession of second place in the CAC, as the Saints of Marymount are 7-5 overall and also 4-1 in league play.
Christopher Newport's women's squad is 12-0 overall and 5-0 atop the CAC. It's just the third time in program history the squad has won its first dozen games.
The CNU women are ranked seventh in the nation, and also coming off a Wednesday victory over Wesley, 70-51. Junior
Sam Porter tallied 17 points while making 15 of 17 shots at the foul line. It marked the most made free throws by a CNU player in nearly 22 years. As a team, the Captains finished the game 22 of 27 at the charity stripe.
Marymount's women's squad is 10-2 overall and 4-1 in the CAC. The Saints are riding a four-game winning streak..
The twin bill was originally scheduled for Saturday, but moved to Sunday due to wintry weather conditions.
