NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Following a trip to Wisconsin over the weekend, the 13th-ranked Christopher Newport volleyball team will be back at home on Tuesday at 7 p.m. when the Captains host William Peace in a non-conference battle at the Freeman Center.

Entering the contest, CNU sits at 12-4 overall and 8-0 at home. Meanwhile, William Peace sports an identical 12-4 mark and boasts a 9-4 record on the road this season.

A LOOK AT THE CAPTAINS

CNU has featured an impressive mixture of youth and experience so far this season. Leading the veteran contingent,
Hannah Miller is averaging 1.17 blocks per set while hitting at a .329 clip. Meanwhile,
Maddie McCann has crushed a team-high 163 kills, and
Rachel Close has anchored the back row while notching a 4.77 digs-per-set average. Fellow senior
Evelyn Harper also has a team-best .966 reception percentage this year.

On the youthful side, freshman
Hope Webb is averaging 9.06 assists per set. Her 462 total helpers are already the third most by a first-year player in program history, trailing only former All-Americans Brittany Collins (1356) and Jessie Heavenrich (682). Equally dominant,
Riley Garrison has started all 16 matches during her first season and ranks second on the team with a 0.85 blocks-per-set average and .304 hitting percentage.

Over the weekend, Christopher Newport registered a 3-1 record during the Wisconsin-Whitewater Invitational. McCann and Miller both earned All-Tournament honors for their efforts. McCann led the Captains with 36 kills during the four matches, while Miller pounded 34 to go along with a .360 hitting percentage and 13 blocks.

Along with the decorated players, Webb registered her third double-double of the year after posting 28 assists and 12 digs in a three-set victory over Carroll on Saturday. She also had 34 assists and 13 digs during a masterpiece against Virginia Wesleyan last Tuesday.

SCOUTING THE PACERS

William Peace split its last four matches after ripping off four straight victories while claiming the team title during the St. Mary's (Md.) Seahawk Invitational earlier this month. Reigning All-Conference performer Laura Bland has been excellent so far this season, averaging 3.93 kills-per-set while also pocketing 147 digs. Meanwhile, Mya Parks is also averaging over three kills per frame, and Liana Solomon has a 9.81 assists-per-set mark. Defensively, Carson Williams has totaled 319 digs, while Tempestt Frazier has 43 blocks.

SERIES HISTORY

Longtime rivals in the USA South, CNU and William Peace have met 25 times dating back to 1997. In those contests, the Captains have a perfect 25-0 record, including a 3-0 victory at the Freeman Center last year.
