CAC Tournament Website

FROSTBURG, Md. -- The Capital Athletic Conference Baseball Championship heads to host and top-seeded Frostburg State University for the remainder of the tournament, where #5-seeded Christopher Newport will play in an early morning elimination game on Thursday at 9:00 am. The Captains will face the 12th-ranked Bobcats on their home field, as Frostburg State was upset by #6 Penn State Harrisburg in the first round and CNU was forced into the consolation bracket by a loss to #2 Marymount.

The double-elimination tournament will feature games at 9am, 12:30pm and 4pm, with live stats and live video available of all three games. After the action on Thursday, the rest of the tournament schedule will be determined based on the number of teams remaining. Regardless of the other results, the CNU/Frostburg State winner will play at 12:30 pm on Friday.

Christopher Newport boasts an overall record of 25-13 this season, going up against a Frostburg State squad featuring a 23-9 mark. The Bobcats swept CNU in a doubleheader at home in the regular season played on April 2. CNU is ranked No. 20 in this week's D3baseball.com Top 25, taking on No. 12 FSU with each team's season on the line.

The Captains offense has been the catalyst for CNU's success all season, averaging 8.02 runs per game with a .313 average as a team. The depth on offense has also been a key factor, as only two players have started all 38 games this season for CNU, in Tommy Vitaletti and Connor Henderson. The twosome are first and second on the team in RBI, home runs, total bases, runs scored and stolen bases this season. Junior Keith Roberts has also pieced together a terrific campaign, reaching base in each of the last 32 games and ranking second on the team with a .360 batting average.

Frostburg State will likely lean on sophomore All-American starter Greg Schneider on Thursday, with plenty of rest since his last start on April 10. Schneider tossed a complete-game shutout against the Captains in the regular season and is one of the league's top pitchers, leading the CAC with 81 strikeouts and a 1.88 ERA in 2016. The Bobcats also feature a tough offense led by K.J. Hockaday, hitting .420 this season. Hockaday has driven in 37 runs with 42 runs scored and 21 extra-base hits.
