A LOOK AT THE CAPTAINS

Entering the heart of league action, Christopher Newport's man-up attack currently ranks second in the conference with a .436 conversion percentage. Matthew Crist and Randy Foster have been especially lethal as the two standouts have combined for five man-up goals. Dave Magdeburger has also added three, while Ryan Mills and Joey Rolando have two apiece.

On the defensive side, CNU sits second in the conference with 122 caused turnovers. Brandon Moloney has led the way as the two-time reigning CAC Defensive Player of the Week has forced a league-high 29 miscues. Michael Mabry is also fifth in the league with 21, while Harrison Drier has 11 this season. Moloney also leads the way with 62 ground balls, while Drier has collected 32.

In the crease, Matt Hayden ranks second in the conference with 111 saves and third with a .575 save percentage. The junior also boasts an 8.26 goals-against-average and 32 ground balls. Meanwhile, Tony Cruz has won 124 of his 217 faceoffs for a .571 winning percentage.

LAST TIME OUT

On Saturday, CNU overcame a pair of five-goal deficits to topple No. 15 Frostburg State, 12-11, in a crucial CAC contest. Foster led the comeback with five points, including the game-winning goal with 1:40 left in regulation. Crist also came through with a team-high four goals, while Rolando and Will Geise chipped in with three points apiece.

On the defensive side, Moloney led the team with 10 ground balls and added three caused turnovers, including one with 39 seconds remaining in regulation to ice the victory. Hayden also had an outstanding game with 10 saves to earn the victory. The win marked the 29th of his career, which established a new program record.

SCOUTING THE EAGLES

Mary Washington enters Wednesday on a three-game skid. However, its last two setbacks have come against No. 2 Salisbury and No. 4 York (Pa.), and the Eagles previously lost a close 9-5 decision to No. 15 Ursinus last month.

Statistically, Miles Davis has led Mary Washington with 29 points and 19 goals. Noah Dewey and Mike Marson have also scored 16 times apiece, while Jack Carver sits fourth on the team with 15 tallies, including a pair of man-up strikes. On the defensive end, Will Gatens leads UMW with 11 caused turnovers, while sophomore Sam Wasson sports a .525 save percentage and a 9.16 goals-against-average. Eli Ayer has won 73 of his 125 faceoff attempts as well.

SERIES HISTORY

CNU and Mary Washington have met 11 times with the Eagles holding a 9-2 edge in the all-time series. The two teams split last year's meetings as Christopher Newport posted a 14-11 victory in Fredericksburg before UMW retaliated with an 8-7 triumph during the first round of the CAC Tournament at Captains Turf Field.

UP NEXT

Following Wednesday's action, Christopher Newport will hit the road for a 3 p.m. battle at Southern Virginia on Saturday.
