Captains Travel to New Jersey for Final Road Game of 2016 Saturday at William Paterson

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Christopher Newport University football squad is heading back to New Jersey for the third time in 2016, as the Captains take on William Paterson Saturday at Wightman Stadium in Wayne. Kickoff time for the New Jersey Athletic Conference matchup is set for 1:00 p.m.

The game will be the final road contest for CNU, and the Captains are looking to finish with a flourish for the second straight season. Last year, Christopher Newport won its final three games to finish 4-6. Matt Kelchner's squad is 5-3 overall and 4-3 in the NJAC, but CNU is coming off back-to-back defeats including a 45-24 setback last week at the hands of Salisbury at POMOCO Stadium. The Captains are 1-1 in the Garden State this year, with a win at the College of New Jersey and a loss at Rowan.

William Paterson enters play riding a four-game losing skid. The Pioneers are 2-6 overall and 1-6 in NJAC action. WPU and CNU will be meeting for just the second time, and the Captains captured the opening game in the series last season at POMOCO Stadium, 42-30.

"We've worked hard this week to prepare for William Paterson," Head Coach Matt Kelchner said. "Obviously, last week's game did not end well, and now we have to show what we're made of. There are two games left and we have to return to the way we were playing earlier this season."

Senior wide receiver Taylor Loudan needs just two receptions Saturday to match Rudy Rudolph's all-time school record of 163. Loudan has 64 catches this season, but has been held to eight combined in the last two losses to Frostburg State and Salisbury.

Following Saturday's tilt in New Jersey, the Captains return home to prepare for the final game of 2016 next Saturday. CNU will host Southern Virginia at POMOCO Stadium on Saturday, November 12th, in a 3:00 p.m. start.

All CNU games are broadcast live on the Christopher Newport/Pepsi Radio Network (Xtra 99.1 FM). Saturday's pre-game show from Wayne, New Jersey, will begin at 12:30 p.m. The broadcast will also be available on CNUsports.com/live.
