CARLISLE, Pa. - The second-ranked Captains of Christopher Newport converted nine of 17 thee-point efforts Sunday afternoon, pulling away from Dickinson College for a 76-56 win. CNU was led by four players in double digits, topped by senior
Tim Daly's 18 points.
The Captains, who were coming off a loss to Marietta eight days ago, led by as many as 16 in the opening half, and stretched the advantage to as many as 22 in the second stanza.
Junior All-American
Marcus Carter posted his first double-double of the season, scoring 16 points and pulling down a dozen rebounds.
"This is a great win for our program," Head Coach
John Krikorian said. "To beat an undefeated team on their floor the way we did today really helps our confidence. We've got a long way to go, but this is a great step for us."
Christopher Newport fell behind early, 5-0, before finding its range, going five for 11 from beyond the arc in the opening half. The Captains opened a 35-19 lead before the Red Devils went on a 9-2 run in the final minutes of the half to pull to within nine at the intermission, 37-28.
Dickinson pulled as close as three early in the second half, 39-36, before the Captains went on a 29-10 run to open a 68-46 lead. CNU made four of six triple tries in the second stanza.
Both teams are now 3-1 on the season following the non-conference clash at Kline Gymnasium.
Daly made seven of nine shots for the day and pulled down eight rebounds to go with his game-high 18 points. Carter was six of 14 from the field while registering his double-double.
Senior
Kevin Regimbal caught fire in the second half, scoring 14 of his 17 points in the second 20 minutes. Regimbal, who made his first start of the season, was seven of 12 for the day and three of five from long range. Junior

The Captains out-rebounded the Red Devils for the day, 35-22, and held Dickinson's leading scorer, Jule Brown, to just seven points for the afternoon, all in the opening half. Justus Melton led the Red Devils with 20 points.
The game was just the second ever in the series. Dickinson beat the Captains in a holiday tournament in Pennsylvania in December of 1991 in the only other meeting.
CNU returns home to open play in the Capital Athletic Conference. Wednesday night. The Captains host the Knights of Southern Virginia (2-2). Tipoff time at the Freeman Center is set for 7:30 p.m.
