About the Captains
CNU's strong defense has been the story in the early going this season, allowing just 47 and 50 points in their first two games, respectively. The Captains' pressure has forced 58 turnovers while picking up 33 steals with seven different players already picking up multiple steals. On the offensive end, Christopher Newport has been led by juniors Sam Porter and Anitra Thomas. Both players have registered team-best 12 point performances so far this season, and are averaging 9.5 and 9.0 points per game, respectively. Porter has added 10.0 rebounds per game through the first two contests.

CNU is 13-3 in home openers at the Freeman Center, including winning nine in a row.

All-Time Series
The Monarchs are long-time rivals with the Captains due to being conference rivals as members of the USA South Athletic Conference up until the 2013-14 season when CNU left for the Capital Athletic Conference. CNU has played more games against Methodist than against any other opponent outside of Greensboro College, boasting a 62-19 winning mark against the Monarchs.

About Methodist
Under the direction of head coach DeeDee Jarman, the Monarchs are 1-2 to start the season, coming off a victory against Hood College, 67-62, in the Jean Edge Classic. Methodist is averaging close to 59 points per game this season led by a pair of players averaging double-figure scoring. Christian Sanders (13.0 ppg) and Kaneya Chambers (11.7 ppg) are the leaders on the offensive end, while Jalisia Campbell is close to averaging a double-double in the early going, with 8.7 points and 11.0 rebounds per game. The young squad features just three upperclassmen, with the rookie Sanders leading the team so far this season.

Coming Up Next
Following Tuesday night's action, the Captains will wrap for the Thanksgiving break before returning to action on the road Sunday, November 27 at Meredith College. It will be the team's third road game in the early portion of the schedule.
