NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Christopher Newport volleyball team moved up to 13th in the latest AVCA National Rankings and will return to the court on Wednesday at 6 p.m. when the Captains host Wesley in a Capital Athletic Conference showdown at the Freeman Center.

Entering Wednesday with a 15-4 record, CNU jumped up one spot in the latest national poll after earning 563 points in the rankings. The Captains have not slipped out of the top-15 since the first week of the 2014 campaign and have been ranked nationally in every poll over the past three seasons.

Along with a 15-4 overall record, the Captains also boast a 2-0 mark in conference action. Meanwhile, Wesley is currently 8-9 overall and 0-2 in league play. The Wolverines will host Rosemont on Tuesday at 7 p.m. before making the trip to Newport News on Wednesday.

A LOOK AT THE CAPTAINS

Christopher Newport enters the week on a five-game winning streak, and the Captains have won 11 of their last 12 outings. During the recent run, CNU has gotten incredible production out of its middle hitters. Over the last dozen matches, both
Hannah Miller and
Riley Garrison are hitting above .370. Garrison also has 11 aces during that stretch, while Miller has 38 blocks.

Overall this season, Garrison currently ranks fourth in the CAC with a .331 hitting percentage, while Miller is second with a 1.10 blocks-per-set average. Along with the two standouts in the middle,
Rachel Close is third in the conference with a 4.69 digs-per-set mark, and
Hope Webb is second with a 9.42 assists-per-set average.
Maddie McCann also stands fifth in the conference with 192 total kills.

LAST TIME OUT

Over the weekend, Christopher Newport opened up CAC action with a pair of 3-0 victories at Southern Virginia and Frostburg State. During the two matches, McCann led CNU with 23 kills, while Garrison had 20, seven blocks, and a .436 hitting percentage. Continuing to balance out the attack, Webb also averaged 11.6 assists per set during the two victories, including 42 against the Bobcats on Saturday.

SCOUTING THE WOLVERINES

Wesley enters this week on a four-match skid, including setbacks against Penn State Harrisburg and York (Pa.) to open CAC play. Despite the recent stumble, the Wolverines have gotten excellent production out of Tionne Graves-Brown, who has a team-high 3.41 kills-per-set average and ranks fifth in the conference with a .326 hitting percentage. Meanwhile, Codi Ziolkowski is tied for second in the CAC with 34 aces, and Kristin Wissler sits fifth in the league with a 4.36 digs-per-set average.

Christopher Newport and Wesley have met three times with the Captains holding a 3-0 record in the all-time series. Last year, CNU registered a 3-0 victory at the Freeman Center.
