NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - It's been almost a month since the Christopher Newport football team hosted action at POMOCO Stadium. Saturday, during Family Weekend festivities, the Captains will take on the Red Hawks of Montclair State University. Kickoff time is set for 1:00 p.m.
CNU is 4-1 overall and tied with four other schools at 3-1 atop the New Jersey Athletic Conference.
Matt Kelchner's squad last played at home on September 17th, when the Captains knocked off Wesley, 42-28.
Christopher Newport opened the season with four straight victories, but had the winning streak snapped at Rowan, 10-7, in CNU's last game on October 1st in Glassboro, N.J. The Captains had their off week last week, and now begin a stretch of five NJAC games as the second half of the season gets underway.
"We've got to get our offense going again," Head Coach
Matt Kelchner said. "The last two games we've struggled a bit. We're looking forward to getting back on our home field in front of a big Family Weekend crowd."
CNU and Montclair State will be meeting for just the second time. Last year in Montclair, N.J., the Captains squandered a 22-7 halftime lead and fell to the Red Hawks, 32-22. Montclair State is 3-2 overall this season and 2-2 in NJAC play. The Hawks are coming off a 17-0 victory over Southern Virginia last Saturday.
Gates at POMOCO Stadium will open at 12:00 noon on Saturday. A limited number of general admission tickets will be available at the stadium, and standing room only tickets will also be sold on game day.
The game will be broadcast live on the Christopher Newport/Pepsi Radio Network (Xtra 99.1 FM) with the pre-game show beginning at 12:30 p.m. Live video will be streamed at CNUsports.com/live.
