NEWPORT NEWS, Va.- After a weekend in a holding pattern due to wintry weather, the Christopher Newport basketball teams return to the court Wednesday night. CNU will travel to Buena Vista, Va., to take on the Knights of Southern Virginia University. The women's game will tip off at 5:30 p.m. followed by the men's game at 7:30 p.m. at Knights Sports Arena.

CNU, and all nine other Capital Athletic Conference schools, had its games postponed on Saturday due to heavy snow and poor travel conditions. The Captains were scheduled to play at Frostburg State, but those games as well as eight other CAC men's and women's battles will now be made up next Monday, February 1st.

So after having the weekend off from game action, both CNU teams will face a re-vamped schedule starting Wednesday night. The games in Buena Vista will be the first of five contests in 11 days for CNU, with four of the five coming on the road for both the men and women.

The Captains have a combined record of 29-3 for the season. John Krikorian's men's team is ranked ninth in the nation this week, and has won six straight games and is now 15-1 overall and 9-0 atop the CAC. Bill Broderick's women's squad is now 14-2 overall and 7-2 in league action, and the squad has won nine consecutive games.

Christopher Newport hopes to repeat its performances from January 2nd when the Captains and Knights met at the Freeman Center. CNU's women's team beat SVU, 106-53, and the men coasted to a 75-40 triumph for a combined 88-point differential.

Both CNU squads are coming off wins last Wednesday night at St. Mary's College. The women held off the Seahawks, 63-58, while the men posted an 83-67 decision.

Southern Virginia's men's team enters Wednesday night's action with a 6-10 overall mark and a 5-4 record in the CAC. The Knights are 5-2 at home after beating Mary Washington last Wednesday night at Knights Sports Arena, 78-76. SVU women's team is just 3-12 overall and 2-7 in conference action.

The games will be streamed live at CNUsports.com/live. The men's game will also be broadcast on the Christopher Newport/Pepsi Radio Network (Xtra 99.1 FM) with the pre-game show beginning at 7:10 p.m.
