ASHLAND, Va. -- Winding down into the final week of the regular season, the Christopher Newport baseball team will close its non-conference portion of the schedule on Tuesday afternoon, traveling to play 10th-ranked Randolph-Macon College. The Captains (12-12) face the Yellow Jackets (17-6), who have dropped four of their last five games after opening the season with a 16-2 start. 

The Captains have won two of their last three games to bounce back from a four-game slide, and are looking to wrap up the 2015 regular season on a positive note. Offensively, the CNU bats have come around to the tune of a near-.300 team batting average. Rookie right fielder Craig Johnson leads the way, hitting .396 in 14 games, while Keith Roberts, the lone CNU player who has started all 24 games, is hitting .344 with a team-high 23 runs scored and 16 RBI. 

Junior Blake Ream has led the pitching staff this season, making seven starts and pitching through a team-high 31.1 innings of work. He's struck out 26, leading the squad as Cameron Parker (25), Adam Emerson (24) and closer Justin Garber (24) follow closely. Garber has three saves this season while going 1-0 with a 1.96 ERA. 

Three Randolph-Macon players are hitting over .400 this season, led by Nick Maiolo's 26 hits. The junior catcher is hitting .456 with a team-high 20 RBI and nine extra-base hits. As a team, the Yellow Jackets are hitting .312 and boast a 3.33 team ERA. Rick Spiers (5-1) is at the head of the rotation with a 1.17 ERA in eight starts, striking out 39 in 46 innings of work. Nic Phelps (4-0) and James Walsh (3-1) have combined for 12 more Randolph-Macon starts, as both boast sub-3.00 ERA's. 

First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 pm. Following Tuesday's game, the Captains will travel to Southern Virginia University on Wednesday for Capital Athletic Conference action starting at 3:00 pm.
