Salisbury starter Ryan Daiss carried a no-hitter into the eighth inning, and held Christopher Newport to just two hits in a complete game victory for the Sea Gulls. The Captains' pitching staff wriggled out of several jams, and tossed seven scoreless innings against one of the nation's top teams.

Rookie left-hander Joe Burris (1-2) got the start for head coach John Harvell, cruising through the first three innings with just two base-runners allowed. He struck out Kyle Hayman in the first inning and Bobby Sanzone in the second, while giving up just two hits. In the top of the fourth, though, the second-seeded Sea Gulls put three runs on the board to take a lead. Sanzone started it off with an RBI single to center, followed by a Danny Breen triple and Austin Barefoot single for two more runs.

Burris would go back out for the fifth, tossing a 1-2-3 scoreless inning, but the Captains' offense continued to struggle against Daiss. Three batters reached via walk for CNU in the first five innings, and Keith Roberts reached in the sixth on a throwing error. Salisbury tacked on one more run in the top of the seventh, on an RBI bunt from Pete Grasso to give the Sea Gulls a 4-0 advantage.

The Captains showed some life in the bottom of the eighth, as junior Kyle Corwin reached on a fielding error by the shortstop to start things off. After an out, sophomore Taylor Loudon doubled down the right field line to score Corwin and break up the no-hitter. he advanced to third on a throwing error, but CNU couldn't score him as Daiss slipped out of the jam with back-to-back groundouts.

After senior Justin Garber tossed a scoreless ninth, CNU freshman Brandon Ginch led off the bottom half of the inning with another hit. After the lead-off single, Daiss retired the next three batters to seal the win for Salisbury. The sophomore right-hander improved to 5-1 on the season with a two-hit, five-strikeout performance.
