Video StreamST. DAVIDS, Pa. -- Riding a three-game winning streak, the Christopher Newport men's lacrosse team will look to continue its roll on Wednesday afternoon when the Captains take on Eastern in a non-conference showdown at 3:30 p.m. at Olson Field.
Both teams enter Wednesday's contest with identical 5-1 records. CNU and Eastern are also both receiving votes in the latest USILA National Coaches Poll.

Wednesday's match-up will mark the fourth meeting between the Captains and Eagles. Currently, Christopher Newport holds a 2-1 lead in the all-time series. Last year, CNU pulled out a thrilling 8-7 overtime victory at Captains Turf Field. Eastern won the last game in St. Davids with an 11-8 triumph in 2007.
Coming into Wednesday's game, CNU has been electric on the offensive end in recent weeks. During the squad's last three games, Christopher Newport has averaged 23 goals per contest. In their last outing, the Captains set a new program record with 26 against Coast Guard.
Brooks Billings led the way with five goals, while
Alex Barber,
Will Geise,
Ryan Mills, and
John Thompson all added three apiece.
Along with the potent attack,
Tony Cruz has found his rhythm on faceoffs. The reigning CAC Player of the Week won 24-of-25 attempts against Virginia Wesleyan and snatched 9-of-12 against Coast Guard. Overall this season, he leads the league with 71 faceoff victories and boasts a stellar .651 winning percentage. He has also collected 26 ground balls.
On the defensive end,
Matt Hayden has a .613 save percentage and a 6.57 goals-against-average.
Michael Mabry has also caused a team-high six turnovers, while
Brandon Moloney has forced five and picked up 18 ground balls.
Randy Foster has done fine work anchoring the midfield unit as well, notching eight points and 17 ground balls.
Eastern enters Wednesday's game following a 15-9 setback to No. 8 Gettysburg on Saturday. David Darling led the Eagles with four points, including three goals, while Grant Ferguson also scored twice. Nick DiPiano contributed 17 saves against the Bullets.
Overall this season, Darling leads Eastern with 27 points and 13 assists. Ferguson has also contributed a team-high 16 goals. Between the pipes, DiPiano has a .588 save percentage and a 9.00 goals-against-average. EU has also won 52 percent of its faceoffs, including 22-of-32 by Joe Palo.
Following Wednesday's tilt, Christopher Newport will kick off Capital Athletic Conference action on Saturday when the Captains host Marymount at 2 p.m.
