NEWPORT NEWS, Va.- The Christopher Newport men's and women's basketball teams will be looking to avenge losses earlier this season at Salisbury, as the Captains host the Sea Gulls Wednesday night at the Freeman Center. The key Capital Athletic Conference doubleheader will begin with the women's game at 5:30 p.m. followed by the men's game at approximately 7:30 p.m.

Both CNU squads have just six games remaining in the regular season, and both look to begin their February schedule by continuing their remarkable success on the home court of the Freeman Center. The Christopher Newport men are 9-1 at home this season, while the women are 7-2.
The CNU women are coming off a road loss Saturday at York, 54-42. The Captains are now 12-7 overall and 8-4 in the CAC, putting CNU in a third-place tie with Marymount.
Bill Broderick's squad will be hosting the top team in the conference, as Salisbury enters play with a 12-0 league mark and an 18-1 overall record. The Sea Gulls held off the Captains at the Maggs Center in Salisbury on December 17th, 62-58.
Wednesday's rematch will feature two of the top defenses in steals in the country, as the Captains are 22nd averaging 12.9 per game...while the Gulls are 36th with 11.8 per outing.
On the men's side, Christopher Newport is 14-5 overall and 9-3 in conference action.
John Krikorian's team won at York on Saturday, 63-55, thanks to a hot-shooting second half. CNU will look for revenge after losing at Salisbury on December 17th, 54-48.
The Sea Gulls could pull into a tie with the Captains with a victory Wednesday night. Salisbury is 12-7 overall and 8-4 in the CAC. The Sea Gulls have been playing well, and have won seven of their last nine games, including a home win over Southern Virginia on Saturday.
Wednesday night's doubleheader will be Academic Recognition Night, as top CNU student-athletes will be honored for their successes in the classroom during halftime of each game.
