Game Notes in PDF Format

HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Following a two and a half week lay-off due to the holidays, the Christopher Newport women's basketball team will return to action on the road this Wednesday and Thursday, December 30-31. The Captains (6-2) will play in the 2015 Juniata College Holiday Tournament, first facing off against the Penn State-Altoona Lions (2-5) at 2:00 pm on Wednesday.

The second game of Wednesday's tournament action will feature host Juniata taking on Alfred University at 4:00 pm. The consolation matchup will be played at 2:00 pm on Thursday, while the championship is set for 4:00 pm. Live stats and a live video webcast are available for all four games.

Christopher Newport last played on December 13, when the Captains captured an 83-73 victory on the road at Virginia Wesleyan College. In that contest, sophomores Devon Byrd and Bailey Dufrene each notched 20-point performances for the first time in their careers, leading the Captains to a non-conference win. Rookies Zhara Tannor and Jessica Daguilh also registered new career highs against the Marlins.

The two games in Pennsylvania will wrap up non-conference play for Christopher Newport, as CAC action begins for the remainder of the season on January 2 at home against Southern Virginia University. Leading the way offensively and defensively has been sophomore Sam Porter, pouring in a team-best 10.4 points per game while also grabbing 3.5 steals per game, ranking 30th in the nation.

Penn State Altoona has won two of its last three games and features one of the top shot-blocking tandems in the nation. Shannon Zimmerman, also the team's leading scorer, has swatted a team-high 17 shots, while Megan Wheeler has added 15 blocks already this season. As a team, the Lions are averaging 5.6 blocks per game, ranking 18th nationally. Zimmerman averages 11.7 points and 8.3 rebounds per game, leading a trio of players averaging double figures this year.

Juniata (3-5) is allowing under 58 points per game this season and Alfred (0-7) has been led by junior forward Amanda Off, averaging 17.9 points and 8.7 rebounds per game.
