NEWPORT NEWS, Va.- Following the best effort of the season last week, the Christopher Newport football team returns home to take on William Paterson University Saturday. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. at POMOCO Stadium.

It will be Senior Day, as 20 Captains will be recognized prior to kickoff. The Captains (2-6, 2-5) knocked off 18th-ranked Salisbury on the road last Saturday, 51-39. Now, Matt Kelchner's squad will look to keep the momentum going as the regular season winds down. Saturday will be the home finale for the Captains, who then finish the season next Saturday (November 14th) at Southern Virginia.

"Last week was a tremendous effort and came about because of hard work," Kelchner said. "This team has not stopped working all year, and beating Salisbury was something we really needed. A lot of teams would have folded up, but our work ethic has been outstanding all year and it's a credit to our coaches and players. Now we need to keep it going against William Paterson, because they're coming in here looking for the same type of road win."

The triumph at Salisbury was the 100th in CNU program history. The Captains are now 100-57 all-time for a winning percentage of .637. Senior quarterback Tyler Quigley was named the Offensive Player of the Week in the NJAC following his performance last Saturday. Quigley completed his first 13 pass attempts, and finished the day 19 of 23 for 306 yards with two scoring passes and two touchdown runs.

It will be the first meeting ever of the schools, and the Pioneers enter play with a 2-6 overall record and a 1-6 mark in the NJAC. WPU lost at home last Saturday to the College of New Jersey, 20-17.

Tickets go on sale Saturday at 11 a.m. and gates open at 12 noon.

The game will be broadcast live on the Christopher Newport/Pepsi Radio Network (Xtra 99.1 FM) with the pre-game show beginning at 12:30 p.m. The live audio and video of the game will also be available at CNUsports.com/live.
