NEWPORT NEWS, Va.- The Christopher Newport University football squad looks to snap a three-game losing skid Saturday as the Captains head to New Jersey to tangle with the Cougars of Kean University. Kickoff is set for 12:00 p.m. at Kean Alumni Stadium in Union, New Jersey.
CNU is coming off a tough home loss last Saturday, as Rowan scored 14 fourth quarter points to post a 14-9 come-from-behind victory at POMOCO Stadium. The defeat dropped the Captains to 1-3 overall and 1-2 in the NJAC.
"We've continued to work hard this week and we are getting better," Head Coach
Matt Kelchner said. "This is the first of two straight weeks playing in New Jersey, so we've got to be focused and ready for more tough opposition. Every week we're facing tough teams, and it says it all that the three teams that have beaten us this year have an overall record of 11-1."
The meeting with the Cougars of Kean will be the second all-time. CNU and Kean played in the opening round of the 2011 NCAA Tournament, with the Cougars advancing with a 34-10 triumph at Kean Alumni Stadium.
Kean is 3-1 overall so far in 2015, and 2-1 in conference play. The Cougars are coming off a 29-15 road loss last Saturday at Frostburg State.
Following Saturday's game with Kean, CNU will have reached the midway point of the 2015 regular season. The Captains travel to Montclair State in New Jersey next Saturday, October 17th.
CNU, in its 15th season of action, is still looking for the 100th victory in program history. The Captains are 99-54 all-time for a winning percentage of .647.
The game will be broadcast live on the Christopher Newport/Pepsi Radio Network (Xtra 99.1 FM) with the pre-game show beginning at 11:30 a.m.
The action will also be available live at CNUsports.com/live.
