ARLINGTON, Va. -- Mark Brewington scored his first goal of the season in dramatic fashion on Wednesday night, putting away a goal with 10 minutes remaining to propel the CNU men's soccer team to the #5 seed in the 2015 Capital Athletic Conference Tournament. The Captains erased a three-game winless streak with a 1-0 win on the road in the regular season finale, dropping Marymount University (7-9-1, 3-5-1) to secure a spot in the postseason.

The Captains will travel to #4-seed Mary Washington Saturday, October 31 as they face the Eagles in the first round of the CAC Tournament at 2:00 pm. The winner will advance to face top-seeded Salisbury University on Wednesday, November 4.

Senior goalkeeper Nolan Mann returned to the field for the first time since October 10, and notched four saves to pick up his seventh shutout of the year.  The huge matchup with the Saints came down to the wire and the senior goalkeeper was stellar in the early stages, turning away three Marymount shots on-goal in the first 21 minutes of action. He was forced to make one more, in the 27th minute, but the Captains took over from there.

After the early surge by the home team, the Captains defense would not allow a shot on-goal in the final 63:14, while the offense outshot the Saints by a final tally of 30-6. Logan Cropper had a strong day between the pipes for Marymount, stopping 11 of CNU's 12 attempts on-frame.

Still scoreless after 70 minutes, the Captains started to push forward as the end of regulation neared. Sammy Blosser, Brewington and Preston Key each had attempts in a three-minute stretch, followed by a smash off the foot of sophomore Andrew Gogolin, blocked by a defender. Finally, in the 80th minute of action, Brewington got the Captains on the board with an unassisted score. He ripped a shot that deflected off a defender and into the goal to give the Captains a 1-0 lead.

The score would hold up in the final ten minutes as CNU did not allow another shot by the Saints offense. Gogolin and seniors Ryan Balfour and Sean Christein led the offensive push by the Captains, taking five shots apiece. CNU took 12 shots on-goal, with Balfour's three leading the attack while Brewington, Blosser and Daniel Zeitoun each had two attempts on-frame.

It is the second straight year the Captains will enter the CAC Tournament as the #5 seed after winning the 2014 championship as the second to last team in. The rest of the CAC Tournament seedings are as follows: #1 Salisbury, #2 York (Pa.), #3 Frostburg State, #4 Mary Washington, #6 St. Mary's (Md.).
