NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Captains Field will play host to a pivotal Capital Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday night as the 13th-ranked Captains (10-0-4, 3-0-2) host the Wesley College Wolverines (7-6-1, 4-1-0) at 7:00 pm. The game will determine who sits atop the conference leaderboard after Saturday's action with just three games left on the regular season schedule. Live stats and live video will be available at CNUsports.com/live.
CNU remains unbeaten through the first 14 games of the season and now own a 22-game unbeaten streak dating back through last season. The Captains have been tested during the stretch, including seven overtime games and six come-from-behind efforts.
Wesley struggled at the outset of the season, starting out with a 1-5-1 overall record, but the Wolverines have flipped the switch and are arguably one of the hottest offenses in the nation over the last seven games. Wesley is 6-1-0 over their last seven with at least two goals scored in each of those contests.
The Captains own a modest 3-0 advantage in the all-time series against the Wolverines including a 3-0 shutout on the road last season. As CNU looks to extend its unbeaten streak against Wesley, it will continue to lean on its strong defense. Two-time CAC Defensive Player of the Week
Sean Christein and the rest of the Captains defense have allowed just 7.3 shots per game this season and have given up just nine goals in 14 games.
Offensively, CNU is led by junior
Patrick Burns, who has scored five goals and added three assists in home games this season. Overall, Burns is tied for second in the CAC with 19 total points on eight goals and three assists. Senior
Ryan Balfour has registered three game-winning goals and ranks second on the team in scoring with 14 points, posting five goals and two assists.
Coming into Saturday's contest, Wesley's offense is rolling, with an average of three goals per game over the last seven games. Defensively, though, the Wolverines have been susceptible, allowing 24 goals this season. Leading the way for the attack are a pair of players with 15 points so far this season; rookie Adrian Coverdale has seven goals and one assist and junior Will Mileski has added five goals and five assists.
The game will kick off at 7:00 pm on Captains Field, with live stats and video available.
