CNU Basketball Hosts St. Mary's Wednesday Night...Doubleheader Begins at 5:30 p.m.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va.- The red hot Christopher Newport basketball programs return to action Wednesday night at the Freeman Center. CNU entertains the Seahawks of St. Mary's College of Maryland in a Capital Athletic Conference doubleheader. The women's game will begin at 5:30 p.m. followed by the men's action at approximately 7:30 p.m.

Live stats and a live video webcast will be available for both games, with links found at CNUsports.com/live.

Both CNU squads enter play on Wednesday with 5-1 records in CAC play. John Krikorian's men's team has won five in a row since returning from holiday break. The Captains, 10-3 overall and receiving votes in the national Top 25 poll, are in a three-way tie with their next two opponents, St. Mary's and Marymount, at the top of the CAC. The Captains are coming off a decisive 81-58 triumph over Penn State Harrisburg on Saturday at the Freeman Center.

The CNU men have been led all season by the trio of sophomore Tim Daly (15.5 points per game), freshman Marcus Carter (15.4) and senior Mike Cherry (12.5). Cherry needs just three three-point field goals to reach 200 for his career, and would become just the third CNU player to hit the plateau following Jermaine Woods (257) and Jeremy Romeo (228).

Bill Broderick's women's team has won its last two games, and the Captains are now 9-4 for the season. CNU is currently tied for second place with Marymount and Mary Washington in the conference standings behind Salisbury. The Sea Gulls are 6-0 atop the CAC. The CNU women also had little trouble in their last game on Saturday, downing Penn State Harrisburg, 77-52.

Senior Camry Green has continued to dominate for the CNU women, and has posted ten double-doubles in the squad's first 13 games. She is now averaging 14.0 points and 12.3 rebounds per contest.

The St. Mary's men's team is 8-3 overall as well as 5-1 in league play. The Seahawks also come in riding high, having won their last six games. Senior Nick LaGuerre tops the Seahawks averaging 19 points per game. St. Mary's leads the all-time series with the Captains, 8-6, and the Hawks have taken the last six meetings.

St. Mary's women's squad comes to the Freeman Center with just a 3-8 record, but the Seahawks have bounced back from an 0-8 start to win their last three. St. Mary's is now 3-3 in CAC play.

Christopher Newport will be looking to continue its home court domination Wednesday. The squads have combined to go 11-2 at the Freeman Center this season with the men 6-1 and the women 5-1.
