NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The ninth-ranked Christopher Newport field hockey team will host No. 7 Tufts in an exciting top-10 showdown on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Captains Turf Field.
The Captains enter the non-conference battle with a 5-1 record, including a current three-game winning streak. The Jumbos sit at a perfect 4-0 on the season. Saturday's match-up will be the first-ever meeting between the two perennial powers.

Christopher Newport enters the game on a solid roll, including a 4-3 victory over Eastern Mennonite on Wednesday. During that contest,
Taylor Williams recorded the first multi-goal effort of her career, while
Carol Thompson chipped in with two assists.
Alexa Weaver and
Allie Hackbarth also scored for CNU, and
Savanah Cummings registered three saves on the defensive end.
So far this season, the Captains are averaging just under four goals-per-game and have out-scored the opposition, 18-6.
Belle Tunstall leads Christopher Newport with 10 points, including four assists. The senior standout has already established new program records for career points and assists and enters Saturday just four goals shy of equaling that career mark as well.
Along with Tunstall, Williams and
Lauren Cheatham both have four goals, while Thompson has three assists. Overall, 13 players have tallied at least one point this season.
On the defensive end, CNU ranks third nationally with an .860 save percentage. Cummings and
Bailey Lien have led the way between the pipes while combining for three shutouts.
Sarah Miller and
Alexa Hendrickson each have a pair of defensive saves as well.
Tufts' defense has been equally dominant in 2014. So far, the Jumbos have yet to allow a goal while out-scoring the opposition, 13-0. Junior Bri Keenan has led the way in the cage, playing all 280 minutes for TU. Her back line has been just as effective, limiting opponents to only 10 shots, including four on-goal, this season.
Offensively, Dominique Zarrella has paced the Jumbos with 10 points, including four goals. Annie Artz has also tallied seven points and three assists.
Following Saturday's game, Christopher Newport will embark on a three-game road trip. The Captains will kick off that stretch against Ferrum on September 26 at 1 p.m.
