FREDERICKSBURG, Va. --
The Christopher Newport men's lacrosse team will open up the postseason on Wednesday at 4 p.m. when the Captains travel to No. 13 Mary Washington for the first round of the Capital Athletic Conference Tournament at the Battleground Athletic Complex.

Entering the postseason as the No. 6 seed, the Captains have compiled a program-best 10-5 record, including a 3-4 mark in league action. Mary Washington comes in at 13-2 with a 5-2 record in the CAC.

Longtime rivals, CNU and Mary Washington have battled eight times with the Eagles holding a 7-1 record in those tilts. UMW won earlier this season with a 13-6 triumph in Newport News. During the game, Brooks Billings scored twice for the Captains, but the visitors picked up hat-tricks from John Bohlinger and Griffin Burke to seal the win.

For those fans unable to make it to the game, Wednesday's action will be available through live stats and a video stream at UMWeagles.com. Direct links to both features can be found at the top of this release and on the men's lacrosse schedule page.

Nick Kirschke has also been an integral part of the team, winning 58 percent of his faceoffs, including a 20-for-27 performance against York on Saturday. The freshman also leads the squad with 67 ground balls to go along with seven points.

On the defensive end, Brenden Dwyer has forced 28 turnovers, while Steven West and Teddy Pekalski have 25 apiece. Michael Mabry has also caused 11 turnovers and scooped up 15 ground balls. Matt Hayden has anchored the team between the pipes, posting a .515 save percentage and an 8.62 goals-against-average.

Entering the playoffs on a six-game roll, Mary Washington has not dropped a decision since suffering a 10-7 setback against Salisbury on March 29. Overall this year, Bohlinger and Luke Dick have been the top offensive threats for UMW, notching 64 points apiece. Dick leads the team with 39 goals, while Bohlinger has 26 assists. Chip Pittard has also contributed 21 goals for the Eagles.

On the defensive end, Zack Delgrosso has a .587 save percentage and a 6.90 goals-against-average. Charlie Webb also leads Mary Washington with 13 caused turnovers, while Johnny Esposito has won 58 percent of his faceoff attempts.
