YORK, Pa. -- Senior right-hander Jacob Vaughan tossed a complete-game against Wesley College (16-15) to power Christopher Newport (22-14) into the next round of the 2014 Capital Athletic Conference Tournament. With the 6-2 win over the Wolverines, CNU will now advance to take on top-seeded York College (Pa.) in an elimination game at 4:00 pm.

Vaughan twirled his third complete game of the year and second nine-inning effort, allowing just six hits and one earned run. He improved to 4-1 on the season, striking out one and allowing just one walk.

Junior outfielder Tommy Vitaletti led the offense, going 3-for-4 with a single, double, triple and a hit-by-pitch. He scored the go-ahead run in the top of the first, after leading off the game with a three-base hit.  Senior Billy Steel drove him in with a sacrifice fly, picking up his 39th RBI of the season.

CNU scored again in the fourth and added the game-winning runs with a pair in the sixth. Insurance runs came in the 7th and 9th innings, and Wesley scored their lone runs in the bottom of the ninth, spoiling a potential shutout.

Sophomore Kyle Corwin drove in a pair for CNU, going 2-for-4 out of the sixth spot in the lineup. Seven different Captains registered a hit in the game, led by the multi-hit performances from Vitaletti and Corwin.

Live stats and a live video webcast will be available in the second game of the day on Saturday, which was set to begin at 4:00 pm. A full recap and stats will be available at CNUsports.com following the action.
