DOVER, DE – Christopher Newport University's thirteenth ranked women's basketball team took to the road for a convincing 73-33 victory over Wesley. A suffocating defensive effort staked the Captains to an early lead and continued throughout the game as CNU won its fourteenth straight and improved to 19-2 overall, 11-1 in the CAC.
Senior,
Tia Perry, scored eight of the Captains first 11 points as CNU immediately built a double-digit lead. Perry would score 12 of her game high, 20 points during the first stanza.
Camry Green added a first-half spark off the bench, contributing 9 points and 6 rebounds as the visitors built a 28 point advantage and lead 39-11 at the half.
Wesley struggled to find points during the opening 20 minutes, shooting a paltry 15% on 4-26 shooting. While struggling on offense, Wesley could not slow the Captains as CNU attacked the Wolverine zone defense for 24 points in the paint during the first half.
The second half continued the CNU onslaught as the lead increased steadily. When freshman forward,
Allison Rowe buried a three-point try with 10:43 to play, the Captains led, 62-21 and coasted to victory.
Green joined Perry in double figures with 14 points all while pulling down 10 rebounds. The performance was Green's fourth double-double in only 11 games this season.
