NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Led by a career-high 22 points from sophomore guard Jordan Miller, the Christopher Newport women's basketball team won their 25th straight home game with an 80-41 victory over Southern Virginia University Monday evening. CNU improved to 17-2 overall this season with their 12th straight victory, dropping the Knights to 3-16 on the year.

The Captains spread the ball around, as 11 different players combined to make 30 baskets, led by the 9-for-19 performance by Miller. The sophomore shooter knocked down four three-pointers, including three in the first half, to pace the potent offensive performance. Miller's 22 points were a game high and just one other CNU player finished in double figures as rookie Allison Rowe posted an 11-point night. No player played more than 18 minutes in the game as head coach Bill Broderick showcased a balanced attack

It was CNU's defense, however, that continued to impress this season, as CNU held their opponent to 41 points while scoring the same amount off of Southern Virginia miscues. Forcing 35 turnovers, the Captains capitalized with 41 points off of miscues while also taking advantage of the offensive glass. CNU held just a slight 39-36 advantage in the overall rebounding, but grabbed 21 offensive boards en route to 29 second chance points.

Leading the way on the glass was junior Camry Green, with seven rebounds, followed closely by senior Tia Perry with six. The CNU defense matched their season high with 22 steals, led by six thefts from senior Nicole Mitchell. Mitchell added nine points, three rebounds and three assists while playing just 18 minutes.

CNU held Southern Virginia empty from long range, on attempts, and held their opponent to just 21.9% shooting in the game. The Knights were led by 11 points from Melynda Boren off the bench, including a 7-for-9 performance from the free-throw line.

The Captains will return to action on Wednesday, February 5, as they play their third game in five days with a road trip to Salisbury University (12-7, 7-3). Tip is set for 5:30 pm in Salisbury, Md. as part of a doubleheader with the men's teams.
