NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Entering the weekend on a two-game roll, the Christopher Newport men's lacrosse team will look to continue its surge against Hampden-Sydney when the squad hosts the Tigers at 4 p.m. at Captains Turf Field.
Following a pair of victories during the last seven days, CNU enters Saturday with a 2-1 record. Hampden-Sydney comes in at 1-1, including an 8-4 win in its last outing against Catholic on Wednesday.
Overall, the Captains and Tigers have battled seven times with Hampden-Sydney holding a 5-2 lead in the all-time series. Christopher Newport has won the previous two bouts, including a 7-6 overtime victory last season. CNU also won the last meeting in Newport News with an 8-7 triumph in 2012. That contest also went into overtime before the Captains prevailed.

The Captains have been led this year by a well-balanced attack, which has notched 11 goals in each of the last two games. Freshman
Brooks Billings has been at the forefront of that effort with five goals and three assists.
Aaron Chrzaszcz has also come through with seven goals in the last two games, including the game-winner against Randolph-Macon with 1.9 seconds remaining in regulation.
Dominating on faceoffs,
Nick Kirschke has also played a pivotal role in the early going having won 44 of his 66 attempts. The reigning CAC Co-Player of the Week has also scooped up a team-high 20 ground balls. On the defensive end,
Matt Hayden has a .520 save percentage and a 9.60 goals-against-average, while
Brenden Dwyer has caused nine turnovers.
Teddy Pekalski has also forced seven miscues this year.
For Hampden-Sydney, Duncan Morris has a team-high five goals, while Thomas Armstrong and James Hughes have three assists apiece. Abbot Wallenborn has also been productive on the offensive end for the Tigers, scoring three times during early-season action.
David Noftsinger has anchored the defense, posting 19 saves while compiling an 11.00 goals-against-average. Ned Bowden has also forced five turnovers for Hampden-Sydney, while Thomas Passenant has caused three miscues. On faceoffs, Jared Arntzen has won 10 of his 15 attempts, while Jake Koferl is 10-of-25 this year.
