Captains Host St. Mary's Wednesday Night...Senior Night at the Freeman Center

NEWPORT NEWS, Va.- The Christopher Newport basketball squads host St. Mary's College of Maryland Wednesday night at the Freeman Center. It will be the final home regular-season games of the year for the Captains, and both games will be preceeded by Senior Night Ceremonies.

The women's game will begin at 5:30 p.m. followed by the men's action at approximately 7:30 p.m.

The CNU women, ranked 14th in the nation this week, will honor senior leaders Tia Perry, Nicole Mitchell, Chantal Thomas, Andrea Hobbs, and Nicole Pandak. The quintet has enjoyed a remarkable run in their four-year span with the Captains...posting an overall mark of 101-16 over the last four seasons.

Christopher Newport, 20-3 overall and 12-2 in the Capital Athletic Conference, has already secured one of the top two seeds and a home playoff game in the CAC Tournament scheduled for next week. CNU is presently tied with York atop the league standings with two games left in the regular season.

CNU defeated St. Mary's earlier this season in St. Mary's City, MD, by a score of 70-58. The Captains are 10-1 at home this season, and the Seahawks enter play on Wednesday with a mark of 9-13 overall and 5-9 in the Capital.

Christopher Newport's men's team will have two seniors to honor prior to tipoff Wednesday night. Tra Benefield and Luc Atangana have both made outstanding contributions to the program and will be recognized for their hard work. Benefield, a pre-season All-America, is sixth on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,703 points.

The Captains are 16-7 overall and 8-6 in the CAC. St. Mary's is 17-6 overall and 10-4 in league play. CNU has already secured one of the six playoff spots in the CAC Tournament next week, but the Captains are still fighting for the right to host a playoff game next week. The Captains are fourth in the league standings presently while St. Mary's is third with two games to play.

The Seahawks beat the Captains in Maryland back on January 27th, 73-62.

Tickets for the doubleheader will be available at the Freeman Center. Both games will be broadcast live at www.CNUsports.com/live and the men's game will be broadcast live on the Christopher Newport/Pepsi Radio Network (Xtra 99.1 FM).

Both CNU squads will conclude the regular season on Saturday at Marymount.
